Rate limits
Work within the default Business API request budget and recover from 429 responses.
Business API keys allow up to 1000 requests per hour by default. The limit applies to the key, so coordinate scheduled jobs, exports, and webhook-management tasks that share one key.
Handle a 429 response
Back off with a finite retry budget
Use bounded exponential backoff with jitter. Do not retry in a tight loop. Preserve the original request and stop after a finite number of attempts.
async function withBackoff<T>(operation: () => Promise<T>, attempts = 3): Promise<T> {
for (let attempt = 0; attempt < attempts; attempt += 1) {
try {
return await operation();
} catch (error) {
if (attempt === attempts - 1) throw error;
const delay = 250 * 2 ** attempt + Math.floor(Math.random() * 100);
await new Promise((resolve) => setTimeout(resolve, delay));
}
}
throw new Error('Unreachable');
}Check the SDK response status
The generated SDK returns 429 in result.response.status when you use the default result form. Treat rate limiting as temporary only when the request itself is valid.
Reduce request volume
Coordinate work that shares a key
- Request only the fields and rows needed by the current job.
- Store the last successful page or export checkpoint.
- Avoid polling when a webhook can notify your service.
- Use one shared client configuration per key so request behavior stays observable.
